Live and Learn and Share

“mentoring is your true legacy. it is the greatest inheritance you can give to others. and it should never end. it is why you get up every day. to teach and be taught… an individual needs to be open to being mentored. it is our responsibility to be willing to allow our lives and our minds to be touched, molded and strengthened by the people who surround us.” – John Wooden

Who’s Influencing You?

“according to research by social psychologist Dr. David McClelland of Harvard, your reference group” determines as much as 95% of your success or failure in life.” – The Compound Effect (127)

this doesn’t mean that you should surround yourself with people who are just like you. this doesn’t mean to surround yourself with just the most successful people. this doesn’t mean to surround yourself with just the smartest people. i believe more important to your success is surrounding yourself with just positive people.

Choose Good Influences

“everyone is affected by three kinds of influences: input (what you feed your mind), associations (the people with whom you spend time), and environment (your surroundings).” – The Compound Effect (119)

the great thing about all three of these things is that we ultimately choose them: input (who/what we listen to), associations (whom we hangout with) and environment (what we surround ourselves with). choose good influences that align with our ultimate goal, whatever that may be.

They Think of YOU

“Live so that when your children think of fairness and integrity, they think of you.” – H. Jackson Brown

this is now one of my favorite quotes. think of the habits that you want to develop and exhibit, because these will be the same habits that your children will be raised with and the same habits that they may end up developing themselves.

Embrace The Struggle, Keep Moving

“Happiness is not the absence of problems but the ability to deal with them.” – H. Jackson Brown

when things go differently than what we had planned or expected (in any aspect of our lives: health, love life, work, school, etc.), we must be resilient and keep moving forward. first we must accept that there will always be hardships and struggles and bs. then we must embrace the fact that without these things, we wouldn’t know what love, beauty, or strength were.

i believe that without hate, we wouldn’t know or appreciate what love  really is. im not saying hate is ok or that we shouldn’t work towards a world without it, because I do believe that a world with less hate is something very feasible (especially now that our world has experienced so much of it). for instance, in the future i see “hate” being talked about the same way “once being able to smoke on an airplane” is talked about now. whenever i think about how smoking was once allowed on airplanes, my mind just explodes. they really allowed that? how could someone do that? what were they thinking? if someone were to light up on a plane today, that person would be scolded and definitely imprisoned! i see the same thing happening to hate. there will definitely be hate in the future, but it won’t be as prominent as it is today.

as bad as the world may seem right now to some people, i believe that we are taking steps in the right direction, and blogs like this and people like YOU are the ones moving it.

“My Lord tells me that for every 1 bad thing in this world, there are 1 million good things. Trust in Him and EVERYTHING will be ok.” – me

embrace the struggle and always keep moving. <– as you can see this applies to your job, your workout program, your relationships and everything else.

My Purpose

success is a journey, not a destination. material abundance, in all its expressions, happens to be one of those things that makes the journey more enjoyable…. even with the experience of all these things (material possessions), we will remain unfulfilled (and unhappy) unless we nurture the seeds of divinity (the spirit) within us… true success is therefore the experience of the miraculous. (true success) is the unfolding of “the spirit” within us. it is the perception of “the spirit” wherever we go, in whatever we perceive — in the eyes of a child, in the beauty of a flower, in the flight of the bird.” – Deepak Chopra, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success (2-3)

i post this because i believe there is a science and an art behind a lot of things, if not everything.

a lot of my posts have been about the science of success, but the art of success, for me, lies in spirituality. science has its purpose, but my purposeinvolves things such as beauty and love and forgiveness, all of which originates from my spirituality and faith (in Him). so i understand that i will be successful once i feel that i have fulfilled my purpose.

Be Consistent

“the positive results you want to experience in your life will be the result of smart choices (and actions) repeated consistently over time. you win when you take the right steps day in and day out.” – The Compound Effect (111)

from the get-go, i let my clients know that the toughest thing about our program will not be the resistance training or cardio training. the toughest thing will be trying to be  consistent. i let all my clients know that true health and fitness is not a 2 or 3 week thing, it’s a lifestyle thing. health and fitness is a journey… a lifestyle.
